Indispensable vocal mic tool

I got a Radial Gold Digger because I have one signal path that I love for vocals but several mics that I like to audition. Switching out mics takes long enough that true A/B comparisons aren't possible if you have to switch cables around and then try to match levels. I could replicate my whole signal path four times for four mics, but that would cost me about $12k, and once I picked my favorite mic for the track, that replicated signal path would just be idle. The Gold Digger solves the problem for a fraction of the cost, and lets me run each mic through the identical signal path with input levels matched, so I'm really comparing apples to apples with compression after the mic pre, too. A patch bay wouldn't be as effective, because it wouldn't do the gain matching, and it wouldn't accommodate the need for 48v phantom power on some mics but not others. The Gold Digger is a bargain for the flexibility ot provides. Of course I also expect to use it for picking mics on guitar amps, acoustic guitars, etc., wherever I have multiple mics to pick from to find the best for the track. I give the Gold Digger 4.5 stars instead of 5 only because the level matching is so drastic at the high end of the pot that it's hard to get it precise. I set it so my quietest mic is wide open, and each other mic is backed off a bit to match levels. This results in all the mics being level-set in the last 2-3 hash marks on the dial. If you want to audition multiple mics on any source, you'll be glad you have the Gold Digger.
