A stylish hard case that actually fits a Fender Bass VI!

I bought a Fender Pawnshop Bass VI a while back, and knew as soon as I saw the "gig bag" that was supplied with it (more of a "Hefty bag," truth be told) that I'd need to find a hard case. Well, that turned out to be easier said than done. After complete failure at my local "big box" music gear retailer (where nothing on the floor fit the oddly shaped offset body), I discovered that Sweetwater could get me an official Fender case... but there was going to be a wait, and a long one. Plus it was wicked expensive ($200 case for an $800 guitar? Yikes!).But browsing through my ginormous Sweetwater gear catalog, I noted the two-page spread for the new Gator Journeyman cases. The dimensions described on this site looked promising, and my wonderful Sweetwater account rep was nice enough to have the guys in the warehouse pull a Bass VI out of inventory to check it out... and sure enough, perfect fit! And WAAAAAY cheaper than the official Fender case. This seems to be a very well-constructed case in a timeless, no-nonsense vintage style. The antique brass hardware and brown leather trim are a classy touch. I don't really care about the color of the fuzzy lining of my cases, but the royal blue is pretty striking. I'm dinging the case a half star because the cream-colored polyester/linen covering is not treated from the factory with any sort of protection... so now I have to decide whether I want to ScotchGuard it or just let it get really dirty and funky (which I predict it will do in a hurry). But this is a small issue, and not something that would prevent me from buying another of these cases... thinking of getting one for my GoldTone banjo, which is currently in a sub-optimal gig bag.Oh, and if you play a more conventional bass like a P or J, this universal Gator case should fit those as well.Another great purchasing experience with Sweetwater! Makes me wonder why I ever shop anywhere else....

Too Much of a Good Thing

I purchased this case for a very special Fender Jazz bass. Big mistake. The lid is too deep, and when I close the case and stand it up, the neck of the bass slides out of its cradle and the whiole thing slumps to the bottom of the case. I've tried Precision basses, Jaguar basses, ESP basses, Lakland basses - nothing stays put in this case. Now it is just standing in the corner of my music room, an eight hundred pound gorilla mocking me.

The visual appearance of this case is outstanding with the exception of a few staples visible on the end binding. The antique bronze fittings are very nice and add to the visual effect. However, the interior of the case leave a lot to be desired. The neck is only supported on a narrow cradle in the middle of the case. It would have been fantastic if the interior of this case mirrored their ABS case, supporting the neck for almost the whole length. Unless you have a very large body instrument that totally fills the area left for it the instrument will not stay put and moves around in the case.
