Solid mahogany topped with maple looks and sounds amazing

To give the PRS Grainger 5-string Bass a rich yet balanced sound, PRS began by choosing the tried-and-true combination of mahogany topped with a gorgeous figured maple top. The PRS Grainger 5-string Bass's mahogany body gives you natural tonal warmth, which is offset perfectly by the brighter tone of its maple top. Together, these tonewoods give you an incredibly balanced sound.

Active electronics provide the power and tones you need

No matter what type of gig you have, the PRS Grainger 5-string Bass is ready for action. Two custom GG pickups deliver deep, thumping bass tones that every bass player wants. The built-in 3-band EQ lets you dial in the exact tones you need. Each pickup has a push/pull pot that controls volume and also functions as an active/passive switch. Feel confident that you are ready for any gig with the PRS Grainger 5-string Bass guitar.

PRS V12 finish feels like nitro and protects like acrylic

The PRS Grainger 5-string Bass is finished in a stunning PRS V12 finish. If you're seeking vintage vibe with a sophisticated edge, your search ends here. Over a decade in the making, the PRS V12 finish blends the thin, resonance-enhancing characteristics of a nitro finish with the non-cracking reliability you expect from a modern acrylic finish. It has a classic feel all its own that makes your axe feel like a well-worn instrument. One that will look flawless for years to come.

A Beast to tame

I've purchased other basses with out first playing them and the bass was what I had expected, but not so with this bass! Aside from great workmanship and beautiful appearances, I was immediately surprised at the use of linear volume pots. Man, all you have to do is touch these and this bass is wide open. The various tones you can get out of this bass are unbelievable! I love the neck! So easy to play and hardly any stress in the fretting hand when playing in the first position. String spacing is perfect for me. Now I am comparing my other basses to my Grainger 5 and if they can't toe the line they are up for sale.

More than I expected

I very seldom purchase an instrument without playing it first. That said, there were no stores anywhere within 150 miles that carried PRS bass guitars. I've dealt with Sweetwater before and never had any issues so I though I'd give it a try. I worked with my Sales Engineer to spec out the perfect GG 5 String. It so far exceeded my expectations when I got it. It is great for pretty much every style I play, Jazz, Blues, Rock & Funk. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful and quality instrument. Just like all my PRS guitars before this, it sets the standards for workmanship and tone.

Excellent, high quality 5 string bass.

I've only had a little over a week to play my new bass, but I can already tell you that this is a wonderful, versatile, high quality instrument. The attention to detail is obvious when you first pick one of these up. The setup was well done, with intonation and action perfect, and the finish is flawless. (I waited to buy this model until the Charcoal Burst was in stock.) The option of switching between active and passive on the pickups adds even more versatility than with an either/or Bass. You can literally get any sound you want from this instrument provided you spend the time to explore the possibilities the various settings offer. The only reason I don't rate it a five is that I believe I'll get a little better response with a different set of strings; however that remains to be seen. I'm an amateur musician and I don't gig very much anymore, but I do have the opportunity to play jam sessions with some excellent musicians from the New Orleans and surrounding area. I play all types of rock, (Zeppelin, SRV, Grateful Dead, Allmand Brothers, etc), blues and some bluegrass and progressive country (no pop country) and this bass is all I would ever need. This is my first PRS instrument, and if this one is representative of the quality they offer, I may own another in the future. Sweet water was wonderful, as usual, with personal service and prompt shipping. I highly recommend this instrument and Sweetwater.
