Turns your guitar signal into a monophonic MIDI signal

The Sonuus G2M offers up a simple way to turn your guitar signal into a monophonic MIDI signal - no messy installations required. Just plug into the Sonuus G2M - the same as you would a regular stompbox - from there, the Sonuus G2M can read a single note at a time, translating all of your playing nuances into a MIDI signal. The applications of the Sonuus G2M are far-reaching - and just plain fun - and for such an affordable price, it's a great addition to any rig.

Improved Version 3

G2M is now in Version 3. Sonuus has made improvements to tracking accuracy and tripled the performance. In addition, it now supports voice and wind instruments as well as guitar and bass. It also offers 20dB more headroom than previous versions, which means it will capture your playing dynamics more accurately.

Use it to sequence bass lines and tricky solos

If you're playing a bass line into a DAW on a MIDI controller, sometimes you just can't translate those subtle bends the way you would if you were playing it on a bass. Instead, you can just play the bass lines into the Sonuus G2M - it will turn the stream of notes into a MIDI signal, which you can later transpose and run through different virtual instruments and synthesizers. This same process is also a handy way to track tricky solos. Just play them in as slowly as you like, with a focus on accuracy - then speed up the MIDI signal or transpose it into a different key, without introducing artifact issues associated with software-based audio pitch and time changes.

Excellent tool for enhancing live performances

While the Sonuus G2M is an excellent studio tool, it's also a great way to give your onstage playing a little extra "oomph" and dimension. Run the 5-pin MIDI output into a synthesizer, for example, to add some fatness behind your guitar sound. Or set it up so a certain sound effect triggers every time you play a particular note - the possibilities are enormous.

Helps to improve playing technique

The Sonuus G2M is a cool creative tool, but it can also help you practice more effectively. Because the Sonuus G2M reads one note at a time, it will help you work on playing each note precisely and articulately, so the Sonuus G2M reads it just the way you intend. With the Sonuus G2M, not only will your MIDI output be more accurate - but your regular guitar playing will be much more clean and professional.

Works well to create music notation

Pair the Sonuus G2M with any music notation software - or the music notation tools included in your DAW - and use it to notate a solo line or a bass passage. Rather than thinking through how you'd score your guitar part - or trying to play it on a keyboard - you can just plug into the Sonuus G2M and play.

Features a built-in standard guitar tuner

You can easily use the Sonuus G2M away from your regular guitar rig. It features a built-in standard guitar tuner, so you can be sure you're always in tune as you play your parts and it turns them into MIDI information.

A "Monophonic Guitar-to-MIDI Converter" that does everything it promised to do. You may want polyphonic capability (which this DOES NOT promise); however, good luck getting it for a price approaching this unit's. I was especially impressed by the instant plug and play response (with my JV30) and the flawless tracking (as long as I dutifully played one note at a time). There are FEW industry products that actually deliver on their advertising hype (for which I blame the hype). This is a rare exception. GET ONE and keep it in your gig bag!

A Good Alternative

This is a nice gadget to have around for a non keyboardist like yours truly. I am having plenty of fun with controlling my guitar with this converter to Garageband and Logic Pro X. I must say that the lack of one star is due to a less than average performance with Finale v25, as I was hoping it will save me some time with inputting single notes since this is a monophonic device. I had to do a lot of fixing after a step recording and the HyperScribe feature is basically worthless. I'm still going to keep this as a tool to compose with my DAW and for this current price, it would be silly not to. Otherwise, you might have to invest in Roland VG99 etc. and be prepared to install a pickup.. and who knows if your guitar would like that(unless you have a cheap guitar you are willing to sacrifice for the cause)

Good piece of gear.

I would have given a 4 star if the construction was metal. The thru and MIDI out, on this model, are absolutely fantastic. The mapping is good, depending on the synth or patch. Some work better than others. Also, if you can adjust your playing style AND know your way around parameters of a synth or whatnot, this little thing is friggin' fun. For the price, it does what is discribed but would have been nice to have a more solid, metal construct.
