A Merger of Class and Playability

Step into a merger of classical and contemporary with Ibanez’s Thinline Nylon Acoustic-electric guitar. Don’t be fooled by the supposed solidbody appearance of this guitar — the solid Sitka spruce top is supported with classical-style fan bracing for a touch-sensitive response that blooms and resonates with even the slightest pluck. The sapele back and sides then come into play by introducing tones brimming with balance and top-end shimmer. You’ll even have easy fingerboard access thanks to the cutaways that embellish both sides of the Thinline Nylon. Top it off with Ibanez custom electronics and an under-saddle pickup, and you have an Ibanez that strummers from all walks of life can appreciate.

Ultra-thin 50mm body

The Ibanez Thinline Nylon acoustic-electric guitar is designed with an ultra-thin 50mm body width, providing the comfortable feel and sleek playability of a solidbody with the traditional tone of a nylon string! Much of this tone comes courtesy of this guitar’s solid spruce top, supported by traditional fan bracing for a touch-sensitive response that beautifully mimics the traditional tones of a classical guitar. It’s a radically fresh take on the crossover nylon-string guitar that has Sweetwater guitarists greatly impressed.

Boundary-pushing playability

The somewhat slim “C” neck on the Ibanez Thinline Nylon is a vast departure from the massive chunk of a traditional nylon string, allowing you to fly up and down the fingerboard with ease. Next, the 1.8-inch nut width is slightly thinner than the standard two inches found on most classical guitars, providing you with plenty of space for fingerstyle playing without feeling cumbersome. Finally, while the typical nylon-string guitar has no radius, the Thinline’s walnut neck is studded with a 15.7-inch radius, a design that Sweetwater guitarists find is instantly familiar to musicians transitioning from an electric or steel-string acoustic.

Electronics ready for the stage and studio

The Thinline Nylon sounds amazing acoustically, but plug it in and you’ll be treated to excellent response from this guitar’s stunning tonewoods and Ibanez pickup. The Thinline Nylon acoustic-electric features an Ibanez T-bar under-saddle pickup that offers natural piezo-style sound with plenty of range. It's also a great pickup for those looking for a more percussive pickup, capturing palm hits and delivering a bass drum-like response. Lastly, there’s also plenty of noise reduction to eliminate pesky overtones or buzzing; this means you’re treated to the clear, natural sound of the Thinline’s spruce top and sapele back and sides.

Ibanez Thinline Nylon Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • A nylon-string guitar that merges the benefits of a classical guitar with the performance of a modern electric
  • Ultra-thin 50mm body provides an exceptionally comfortable playing experience
  • Deep cutaways for unlimited access to the upper frets
  • Solid Sitka spruce top with fan bracing imbues your tone with the touch-responsive feel of a traditional nylon string guitar
  • Sapele back and sides deliver a warm, rich tone with a hint of treble bite
  • Sturdy nyatoh neck carved into a comfortable “C” shape
  • Walnut fingerboard in a flat 15.8-inch radius for enhanced playability up and down the neck
  • Wide 1.8-inch nut width offers plenty of space between each string for fingerstyle playing
  • Ibanez Custom Electronics with a T-bar under-saddle pickup that provides natural, piezo-style sound and percussive response

Nice sound plugged in

I am very pleased with this guitar (FHR10NNTF). Plays nice out of the box. Sounds great plugged straight into a PA system. I bought it for comfort and playability for 3-4 hour solo gigs. I assumed that it would need a preamp or modeler pedal to sound good, as the body is so thin. But it sounds equally good through a PA or Fender acoustasonic amp. The unplugged volume is adequate for quiet practice, as if I am ever quiet. This guitar exceeded my expectations. Thanks Sweetwater.

Great Nylon Guitar

Before getting this guitar I've only played electrics, and this one seemed like a great starting point to dive into playing on a nylon string guitar. Right away the instrument feels great in the hands, very comfortable and looks fantastic. I play in my apartment so the thinner body keeps the guitar from getting too loud, which for my situation is a big plus, and the overall sound is great. For being a first-time nylon guitar, the build feels familiar enough to an electric that it's very easy to pick up and get acclimated to it in no time at all. I had a setup service through Sweetwater done on the guitar to adjust the action and replace the strings, so I can't speak to the original setup quality from the manufacturer.

This guitar definitely has become my go-to for daily playing.

Pristine Tones, Easy Playing, Good Set-Up

Of all my nylon guitars, this one is the the most comfortable-playable and sounds great.

Not much else to say; It's gonna be played daily and travel with me.

Thanks to Alex Jasiak and the Sweetwater team for the guitar prep and all the info I needed to make a good decision on a nylon string guitar.

Pretty Much Perfect

If you are an electric player and want to get into acoustic/nylon type, this is the perfect transition. The body is not much bigger than a normal electric, weighs practically nothing and the neck profile is that Ibanez thin type. Size, weight, length, hell even the strings didn't require 3 weeks of tuning stability out of the box. Seriously, just impressed.

My only real gripe about it is the soundhole placement and lack of any volume control. If you play more classical stance, then this isn't a problem, but playing on your strumming hand side leg, you do tend to cover up the hole, so it's not so 'blasting sound directly in your face' like Tim has said in his videos. Also, I didn't notice that this compared to the TOD10N is that there is no EQ or volume adjustment, which not a game killer, the build in on/off preamp does fine, though at that point, why even have a button to turn it on/off? Sure, unplugged is pretty quite compared to a typical acoustic, but in a quiet low noise room, it still has some projection to it

Overall, I am basically in love with this guitar. I have other acoustics of various sizes but this is the most 'natural' feeling to me. I bought on impulse and no ragerts here.

Has a Spot in Your Collection

My main nylon guitar is a 22 year-old Lowden S25J. This Ibanez isn't that guitar, and it's not intended to be. Like my other acoustic-electric guitars, I run this through an LR Baggs Venue DI (also purchased from Sweetwater.) So, I don't care about its lack of volume/tone, controls etc. And, I don't play classical guitar standards on this guitar. What I do is run this through a Strymon Cloud Burst (Sweetwater) and a selection of other delay, chorus, modulation processors. And, it sounds great. After some quick and easy work to get the action where I prefer, I spent several hours lost in a sea of ambient guitar goodness. I play with Martin M165 Magnifico high tension strings (Sweetwater), and this guitar takes them very well. So, I've got nothing bad to say about this modestly priced thinline nylon. I reserve five stars for dream guitars - and this doesn't meet that standard. But, it's a solid four stars for what it is. Shout-out to Matt Masek, my Sales Engineer. He's always incredibly helpful, and always reaches out to make sure I'm a happy Sweetwater customer. (Spoilers - I am, for 10+ years...)
