Expression City With Midi

If your fingers do what your brain commands, the 5000 will absolutely impress you with realistic feeling expression similar to a real horn. If you can cut it up,you're gonna dig this stick.

Great service and price

The price was right and the followup service was excellent.

Will buy again for sure, Sweetwater !

I am very happy with the whole experience purchasing the EWI 5000 at Sweetwater. From submitting the purchase request to delivery, everything was meticulously kept track of and the package was really well packed.

I have an Akai EWI4000 so I had a very good.idea of what to expect. The 5000 works great. The rechargeable.battery is a great addition as is the wireless audio out. I went with the 5000 because in have need of actual.instrument sounds. Oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet etc. The new instrument was a less expensive option than a.motif or other high end sound module. The built in patches are good but not great hence 4.5 stars. The editing software worked.perfectly on my.old macbook but.provides less flexibility than I'd.hoped for. This.is a really.good instrument. Just like the 4000.

EWI5000 lives up to its reputation

First let me say thanks to Ty for getting this into my hands in 3 days - even when it was still showing on back-order at time of purchase. Excellent service!!! As a long-time reed instrument and WX5 player I was expecting a learning curve on the fingering. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to transition from moving keys to non-moving contact pads. I also enjoy the octave rollers compared to the fragile octave keys on the WX5. The included SoniVox samples for sax, oboe, bassoon, flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone exceeded my expectations out of the box. Obviously this handful of instruments will not be sufficient and I will use it via usb-midi with Wallandar Orchestra on my iPad mini, but as a stand-alone I consider this EWI5000 superb!!! I have no problem with controlling the vibrato using bite as opposed to wind as I got used o that with the WX5. I can still growl and flutter normally. The usb-audio wifi works perfectly out of the box as well. I will see how it handles interference from local wifi users and mobile radio transceivers on my next gig. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 only because of the limited amount of real-instrument samples included on the device - the synth voices that fill out the remainder of the internal library are cute, but not really relevant to the instrument - which is as a digital stand-alone wind instrument replacement. As a side-note, the tuba patch sounds terrible and there is no discernible difference between the instrument voices in the high (calculated) registers beyond the normal range of the sampled instruments. More work could have been done IMHO on the implementation of sample extrapolation to make use of the extended range of EWI5000, otherwise the range greater than that of a WX5 is functionally wasted for real instrument sounds.
