Neck designed for hours of comfort

The select hardwood neck with katalox fingerboard features Martin's legendary High Performance profile with Performing Artist taper which many players liken to a more electric-guitar-style neck. Essentially, the Performing Artist taper means the fingerboard width does not widen as much as you move up the neck (1-3/4” width at nut, but has a 2-1/8” width at the 12th fret), making for an ultra-comfortable feel especially for those longer performances. This taper also can help with those leads and chords that take place in the upper frets, making finger-shaping and runs much more comfortable – just ask the many guitarists here at Sweetwater who love the PA series of necks!

A phenomenal guitar.

For an acoustic electric I wasn't expecting much. But the "martin sound" is coming out of this in every way. The lows push through as the highs sing and the mid tones don't get drowned out in the mix. The more I play it the more it opens up and becomes more of a point of pride for all martin owners. The Mexican shop definitely takes pride in making an instrument of such high quality that it's hard to match it without spending thousands of dollars on a guitar that sounds just like this one does. The Fishman pickup does its work very well. Recording and playing live is a joy with this guitar. So easy. Definitely don't sleep on this guitar. A must have for anyone's collection. Especially if you will be subjecting it to varying temperatures like me. This guitar can not only take it but laughs it off as it performs flawlessly. Big shout out to the people at Sweetwater for the outstanding packaging and inspection. I haven't had to tune it yet. Zero adjustments. Just ready to play.

Simple and elegant!

X series Martin guitars are, well, simple. No frills here. Yes, they are made in Mexico, but they aren't "farmed out" to a third party manufacturer (in China). Instead, Martin opened their own factory in Mexico, and spent the last decade teaching their people there how to build musical instruments using a process established by CF Martin Senior in the 1800's.
My D-X2E Koa is light, resonant, and very playable (even on a subtle level). The workmanship is clean, professional, and well executed. The two things that stand out most are the perfect balance (most acoustic guitars are neck heavy, while the D-X2E favors the body in weight just slightly), and the tone. Oh that Martin tone! This guitar was designed to give off resonant sound, which it does abundantly. In my opinion, this is the perfect guitar for new and intermediate players. These aren't cheap, but you do get a bit more that you paid for. Cheap guitars are usually harder to play, but this one calls out to be played, due to the subtle details in dimension, design, and craftsmanship. I'm a "Mechanical" person. I like to work with my hands, so I understand what these things can mean in the final product. The devil is in the details, and Martin clearly has the details covered. If you want a guitar that won't break the bank, but delivers a sound and feel that makes you want to pick it up and play it, then you won't go wrong here.

Great Guitar - Shave the Saddle As With Most Martins For Lower Action

So impressed with my previous Martin purchase a DX-1AE (also made in Mexico) I purchased this D-X2E which is similar. The DX-IAE has a punchier sound, but it's been played more-perhaps.

I cannot stress enough to read up on YouTube and sand down these bridge pieces for lower action and better playability. The fretwork is that good. First, contact Martin and have them mail you the proper bridges (inexpensive) for this guitar in case you haven't done it before and sand too far. It is not difficult and can be fun.
The factory saddles are purposely high. Easy to fix. Martin recommended that I use Johnson's Floor Wax only, to keep the spruce top free from cracking etc.

Also as most people know keep your humidity 45-55% during the winter months and keep in a case with a moisture pack, if you choose. In Canada, the Honeywell Humidifiers can save your guitar with the winter furnace heating. Get the largest one which takes an E Filter. Not that expensive and your guitars will love it.
