Solid Engelmann spruce top for great sound

Sweetwater knows that the choice of top wood can make or break the sound of a nylon-string guitar. For the CG122MS, Yamaha chose a solid Engelmann spruce top. Chosen as much for its look as its tone, solid Engelmann spruce has a rich sound with excellent projection. And because it's a solid-wood top, the tone of your Yamaha CG122MS will age gracefully, with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by.

Full-width nut for true classical spacing

The Yamaha CG122MS offers a 2" nut width that allows you to play using true classical techniques. Unlike many guitars in this price range, the CG122MS gives you full spacing for executing proper rest strokes and free strokes. This larger width also makes complex fingerings easier on the fretboard.

Ideal for Beginners

From the full size to the great price, the Yamaha CG122MS is perfect for beginners. Whether you're new to classical nylon-string guitars, or have never played a guitar in your life, the CG122MS gives you the right balance of playability, durability, and great sound.

Sweet Sounding Guitar.

This guitar is easy to play, looks beautiful, and has a wonderful sweet sound to it. I'm basically a finger/folk player. What truly impressed me was the fast service that I received from the Yamaha Corporation. I emailed them asking what was the best replacement strings for this particular model (seeing that it does not have a truss rod) and I got a phone call the very next day! I replaced the strings with D'Addario Pro-Arte Normal Tension EJ45's and the guitar sounds wonderful. Great job Yamaha and Sweetwater for delivering another great instrument.
Music background: Long time retired musician now a hobbyist.

sweet classical guitar!

I bought this model to begin classical guitar study after 25+ years of playing acoustic steel-string, electric gtrs and basses. I unwrapped it, tuned it up, and it was ready to go! I've played it daily for over 2 months and I'm very happy with it. I love the smooth matte finish and the warm sonorous tone. A great instrument should not get in the way of making music - this guitar delivers on that premise.
