because i'm efficient...

...i wrote basically the same review for these and the heavies. Kudos to you if you spot the differences!

Someone already went through the trial and error process. These are pretty subtle, so they should record well. The heavies are a bit more brash, a bit more rattle and less sizzle. Heavy bacon indeed. The regulars are IMO still very present but much smoother. I would put 2-3 rivets somewhere in between the two. Lol, maybe that's a good way to rate these? Reg is 1.5 rivets, heavy is 3.5 or 4 rivets. Also dries up the cymbal sound too due to uncoupled mass, so you get more bright initial attack and less/darker sustain. Heavies moreso than regs. So even tho it looks like there wouldn't be much difference, remember it is dampening and darkening the cymbal sustain and replacing it with its own added sizzle and rattle at the same time. Like I said, Meinl already did the trial and error. Maybe you want something different, and that's cool, but these will help you figure that out for pennies on the hour. That sounds economical to me. Why I don't go out for coffee much.

Make your own if: you are an arts and crafts hobbyist, or you have a really specific sound you are after, or you are rich in time and poor in money (tho I don't know anyone who is both of those personally). But it's a lot less time and $$ than riveted cymbals, which IMO are too niche for a generalist like mahself here. IMO, making your own is a bit like reverse engineering the wheel. Far fewer of us care to spend our time doing something like that than we care to admit, especially if just to prove to ourselves that yay we did it! Hey I believe in you. Even if you don't end here, start here in search of sizzle without breaking your bank or schedule book with yet another DIY project just because you want some bacon on your bronze plate. It's OK. Oh, unless you already work at or closely with a hardware store. Then it might be a quick enough project to make it time effective (how much is your time worth? The length of this review? You can't get the time it took you to read this far back. It's gone forever)

Otherwise, for a generic sizzle that isn't overdone, I like these just fine. Why is my review of cymbal bacon this long? Because I am neurotic, I write as a desparate hobby, which apparently includes therapeutic product reviews, and I live in Oregon where you can settle into the evening with a nice 1:1 even though the world is headed toward the Handmaiden's Tale in a handbasket. Any other questions?

Can't believe something this simple works the way it is meant to sound.

MEH

Not enough sizzle for my bacon!
It does deaden the ring overtones on my Zildjian 22" Medium Ride better than tape ever did! Would like a little more sizzle.
