High-tech Deep Bass Extension

Genelec's 7370A SAM active subwoofer is a powerful and precise bass-monitoring tool for up to 7.1 surround systems. With its 19Hz low-frequency extension, high-sound-pressure output capability, and versatile bass management system, the 7370A delivers accurate low-frequency monitoring for all analog and digital applications, such as recording studios, digital workstations, and TV and radio broadcasting facilities. The 7370A incorporates several proprietary technologies including Genelec's LSE (Laminar Spiral Enclosure), AutoCal, and the GLM control network. The 12" subwoofer is powered by an onboard 400-watt Class D amplifier and employs active crossovers, Intelligent Signal Sensing, and protection circuitry. For powerful, clean deep bass extension with Genelec SAM full-range speakers, Sweetwater highly recommends the 7370A.

Genelec 7370A SAM Studio Subwoofer at a Glance:
  • The LSE bass reflex cabinet
  • AutoCal and bass management
The LSE bass reflex cabinet

Genelec's Laminar Spiral Enclosure is made of a sheet metal rolled into a spiral shape and clamped between thick MDF side panels. This new construction technique provides excellent laminar flow characteristics with minimal turbulence noise and enables optimal packing of a very long reflex tube into a small space. The amplifier unit integrated into the cabinet contains active crossover filters and driver overload protection circuits. The inbuilt bass management unit has six signal input and output channels, summed signal output connectors, and LFE input equipped with a +10dB sensitivity switch.

AutoCal and bass management

Genelec's cutting-edge AutoCal technology automatically aligns every sub for volume, crossover phase, timing, and equalization of room response aberrations. Delivering extended LF performance, accurate tonal reproduction, and robust dynamic capabilities, the 7370A incorporates Genelec's distributed bass management architecture to handle multichannel low-frequency content.

Genelec 7370A SAM Studio Subwoofer Features:
  • Genelec Smart Active Monitor technology
  • LSE (Laminar Spiral Enclosure) optimized bass reflex cabinet
  • Includes bass management that handles multichannel LF content
  • Protection circuitry: drive unit protection for safe operation
  • Onboard 400-watt Class D amplification, active crossovers
  • AutoCal, for perfect automatic alignment
  • Energy-saving Intelligent Signal Sensing
  • Analog XLR inputs; stereo AES/EBU XLR I/O

Fabulous. Expensive but worth it!

I just got the Genelec 7370A to compliment my Genelec 8351B's in my "home" studio. I say home because it's really just carved out of my photo studio. It was quite a bit more complicated to get all three up and running and to give credit to the wonderful Steffenee Copley, Genelec's Los Angeles area rep walk me through the process over the phone. The tech folks here at Sweetwater had only minimal experience with Genelec and almost none with the GLM calibration system. Once I ran a few tests with different crossover frequency points and became more familiar with the finer points of the GLM calibration software I was able to dial in the entire system with remarkable accuracy, but the most important thing to emphasize is just how effortless this sub is throughout its range and how well it integrates with the monitors. This just extends the already very great range of the 8351B's all the way down and there's even a part of the calibration process that checks and corrects for phase in the entire system. Of course, this is a fairly expensive speaker but once you hear it you'll quickly forget about the price, and doing some spot checks just out of curiosity with a tone generator, this clearly exceeds their stated specs on the low end, easily reproducing down to 14 or 15 hz. And the GLM software, while its running will always give you a db level through the measurement mic that is attached. Handy for so many things but also useful for keeping tabs on your monitor levels in real time.
