Canadian wild cherry delivers a sweet sound like no other

When people see you holding your Godin 5th Avenue Composer GT hollowbody electric guitar chances are, they're going to assume it cost a fortune. That's because the unique grain and wildly varied figuring of its Canadian wild cherry top, back, and sides look like some pricy exotic wood you only see in guitar collectors magazines (or on the pricier guitars here in Sweetwater's amazing Guitar Gallery). And once you play it, it's hard to convince anyone how little you spent on this magnificent instrument. No joke, this has happened to several of us at Sweetwater. The fact is, the choice of this abundant, rapidly renewable, and gorgeous tonewood comes at absolutely no expense to the sound of the Godin 5th Avenue Composer GT; in fact, its one of the things that makes it so special.

5th Avenue archtops combine vintage class with modern precision

Godin's entire 5th Avenue lineup has been popular from the first and steadily catching fire ever since. That's because Godin is doing what few other American guitar makers can claim - making quality guitars, such as the Godin 5th Avenue Composer GT, from solid materials and sound construction techniques, and offering them at a more than reasonable price. This goes doubly for guitars such as the Godin 5th Avenue Composer GT, whose archtop nature relies on an impressive balance of tension and tonewood characteristics. The result is a guitar that looks, plays, and sounds like it wandered straight out of the early mid twentieth century, but is built to the tight tolerances only twenty-first century technology can offer.

Great step up

I got mine through retailer as a factor reconditioned, so my experience is slightly off. Also, I did not get mine through Sweetwater, though this was solely a financial decision because of the outstanding deal I got. That said, this is a step up for me. My first archtop was a lower end model and this is definitely better. Overall impression is great!Good finish and build quality. No major design issues at all. I love the blond look (I usually go for brunettes).Sound is great. A lot of tone response in controls and on the fretboard. My big question prepurchase was its acoustic sound, which is stellar of only a little quiet. It isn't an acoustic instrument, but can do the job in small settings rehearsing. I recorded a small amount on it unplugged. It does its job.I prefer bound necks, but this one is great. It has the same finish problem of any guitar where it could use a fret dress, but it isn't noticibly poor build quality. My one down side is the neck joint is not as flush as I am used to. The taper leaves the body noticeably in the way as you get up the neck. Nothing a little technique won't iron out, but worth mentioning.
