Sonor Vintage

The designers at Sonor have put a lot of resources and detailed attention into their Vintage series drums, which offer drummers an authentically classic look and tone along with a modern feel. From the hardware featured to the wood for the shell, the Vintage series channels the analog sounds of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, when the pure acoustic tone of drums reigned.

The Sonor Vintage series begins with shells made from German beechwood. This particular tonewood won over the Sonor team for its warm tone and malleable nature. The bearing edge on the beechwood shells of the Sonor Vintage series has been rounded for lots of surface area contact for the head, resulting in a beautifully full tone on every strike.

Each beechwood shell in the Vintage series has been made with a special cross-lamination, tension-free design. These extra-thin plies of wood promise to maintain their shape, fortified by the cross-lamination process for extra durability and long life.

The hardware on the Sonor Vintage series also conjures classic looks. Sonor has brought back their vintage teardrop lugs, which originally appeared in the ’60s. With these updated teardrop lugs on the Vintage series shells, Sonor has also included TuneSafe. This simple design update ensures that the tension rods don’t vibrate loose during play, while also helping to maintain solid tuning.

The Sonor Vintage series also comes with several vintage wraps and finish offerings. These classic wraps are applied with glue across the entire surface and are hand inspected to ensure they are free of air pockets that might compromise the shell’s tone. In addition, the Vintage series stains are hand sprayed to heighten the unique character of the wood grain, yielding an undeniable vintage look.
