Zoom’s modular capsule system makes swapping out microphones on your H5 or H6 Handy Recorder as quick and convenient as changing lenses on a camera. Just clip on the capsule you need for whatever environment you’re recording in, and you’re good to go. And since all of Zoom’s interchangeable capsules include hardware volume control, you don’t need to mess with any software controls, when you swap them out.

XYH-6 Mic Capsule
Versatile X-Y Stereo
Included with H6; compatible with H5 and H6. Many engineers prefer X-Y stereo recording when they’re after a broad or larger-than-life stereo sound with plenty of ambience and a well-defined center. The Zoom XYH-6 microphone module uses a pair of cardioid condenser capsules to give you a broad range of X-Y stereo sound. In 90-degree mode, the X-Y field captures a focused stereo that’s ideal for distance miking. When you rotate the capsules into 120-degree mode, the XYH-6 provides you with a much broader spread that’s perfect for capturing wider ambience, which makes it particularly useful for close miking.
MSH-6 Mic Capsule
Media-ready Mid-Side Stereo
Included with H6; compatible with H5 and H6. Because of its remarkable mono compatibility characteristics, Mid-Side stereo recording is a mainstay of film and broadcast audio production, and the Zoom MSH-6 microphone capsule makes harnessing this technique a piece of cake. The MSH-6 includes both a forward-facing cardioid capsule, and a figure-8 element that points left and right. Using the processing onboard your Handy Recorder, you can completely control the stereo width of your audio — even after you’ve recorded it. Best of all, when you fold down the audio to mono, you won’t lose a thing to phase cancelation.
XYH-5 Mic Capsule
Ultra-stable X-Y Stereo
Included with H5; compatible with H5 and H6. An amazing run-and-gun stereo microphone, the XYH-5 module offers a 90-degree stereo spread with a strong center image to keep your sound in focus while capturing vital ambience. Both of the XYH-5’s cardioid capsules are housed in independent advanced shockmounts capable of absorbing vibration and handling noise from any direction. That makes this module an absolute lifesaver when you’re recording in uncontrolled environments or capturing extremely loud sound sources, so it’s a perfect pick for rock shows and electronic news gathering.
SGH-6 Mic Capsule
Hyper-focused Mono
Compatible with H5 and H6. When you’re recording in an extremely noisy environment, or you want to pick up just a specific isolated sound source, then you want to have a SGH-6 shotgun mic capsule on hand. Because of the hypercardioid polar pattern, which rejects sound from all but a very narrow angle, you can use this capsule to capture dialog at a distance or a single performer onstage from the back of the hall. Many electronic news gathering professionals also prefer shotgun microphones for conducting interviews, and they’re ideal for film and broadcast work.

EXH-6 Input Capsule
Extra Combo Jacks
Compatible with H5 and H6. If you’re taking a feed off of a mixer or using a set of external microphones, then the Zoom EXH-6 input capsule gives you an extra set of inputs you can use to get the job done. This capsule provides you with a pair of combo jacks, which accepts XLR and either balanced TRS or unbalanced TS 1/4″ connectors. This allows you to connect microphones and line-level sources, as well as high-output instruments such as keyboards and guitars with active electronics. The cool thing is that the EXH-6 automatically detects the input source, so you don’t need to worry about changing internal settings. What’s more, Zoom outfitted the EXH-6 with a set of -20dB pads, providing you with an extended dynamic range.
