Yamaha is finalizing plans to develop an audio and MIDI connectivity standard based on firewire technology. Similar in purpose to other high speed networks proposed in the past year “mLan,” as it’s called, will provide many channels of high quality audio and data transfer down one cable, making it far easier to connect different kinds of equipment in complex arrangements, and also making it easier to transmit such data long distances (even over the Internet). The project has been in the works a long time, but it appears that Yamaha is going to begin to produce products based on the technology soon.
