Up until now, when mastering, engineers had to hope that whoever created the mixdown properly handled the all-important “phantom center.” But now, Waves has introduced a brand-new plug-in called (appropriately enough) Waves Center. Ideal for precision mixes and critical mastering, Waves Center is capable of separating phantom-center content from the left- and right-side content, allowing users to zero in on just the phantom-center information to separately adjust that content in terms of volume, EQ, and even timing. Waves Center uses a unique dynamic engine that analyzes the amplitude, frequency, and time envelope of stereo sources, then allows users to radically rebalance the spatial imagery. Controls include adjustable punch, as well as high- and low-frequency controls, which can enhance detail with maximum impact. Waves Center is a must-have tool for post-production facilities, DJs, and for mixing and mastering when “good enough” just isn’t an option.
