has just released Pro Application Support version 4.0. This 8.3MB software update requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later and improves general user interface reliability for all of Apple’s professional applications and is highly recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Aperture, Final Cut Express HD, Soundtrack, Logic Pro, and Logic Express. You can use the Software Update feature found in the drop down menu under the Apple logo or download the update.
Apple has also released an update to its QuickTime software. Version 7.1.6 delivers numerous bug fixes, addresses a critical security issue with QuickTime for Java, and includes support for Apple’s new Final Cut Studio 2 as well as timecode and closed captioning displays. The 45.1MB update is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users and requires a restart after installation. It’s available using the Software Update feature or as a download.
MOTU has announced that the newest version of Digital Performer has been released. The 5.12 version includes, among other things, the ability to play files of any bit depth simultaneously. The bit depth menu in the control bar has disappeared while the preferences have two new menus, one of which controls the bit depth of the recorded material in newly created projects, while the other controls the bit depth of the files recorded in the opened project. You will need to have your serial number in order to download (located on the registration card at the front of the user manual) since MOTU has changed their registration system. If your copy of DP 5 is an update then you’ll need the serial number of the original copy of DP you purchased.
