Roland has announced that their hugely popular Edirol R-09 has just gotten a firmware update that allows it to use the new 8-gigabyte SD High Capacity (SDHC) cards. Thanks to this update, the R-09’s solid set of functions now includes manual file splitting, which is activated by a single button push while the unit is in RECORD mode. There are many practical circumstances where immediate file splitting is advantageous or even necessary, so now R-09 users can easily demarcate unique interview subjects and/or audio information without interrupting the recording process. For customers updating from version 1.10 or before, the new version 1.30 adds features that were included in the v1.20 update.
