Two World Records

Guinness World Records has certified two new music-related achievements recently: the biggest number of simultaneous theremin players and the world’s fastest drummer.

The theremin record was set in Hamamatsu, Japan (home of Roland and other music manufacturers), where 272 musicians dressed all in black performed a concert using theremins housed inside brightly colored, small Russian dolls.

The drumming record was set by Canadian Tom Grosset at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Tennessee. Grosset is the first person to achieve more than 1,200 single drumstick strokes in 60 seconds — he played 1,208 strokes (more than 20 per second) breaking the previous record of 1,203 set by now-Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini in 2003.
