In music transpose means to change the key (principle pitch) of a piece of music. The notes of the piece become either higher or lower. The term is used in audio production to denote an overall change of pitch in an audio sound. Playing back a recording at a slower speed will also lower the pitch of it, which is almost the same as lowering the key, except that the tempo also gets reduced.
