Transporting Your Keyboard

When transporting your keyboard, if it has a floppy drive you should park the heads to prevent damage. Some keyboards (like the Kurzweil K2000/ K25000 series) allow you to do this manually: Go to the DISK page, and hit LOAD with no disk inserted. The K2000 will tell you to insert a disk. At that point, turn the power off, and your heads are safe. Some people will insert a junk floppy disk into the drive before transporting, and this does work to a certain extent, but you still run the risk of head damage if your roadie or friend drops the board! (Naturally, they won’t tell you if this happens, and you’ll not find the damage until arriving at your big showcase gig for the Major Record Label A&R Rep…)
