Thru Box

A MIDI device that provides multiple MIDI Thru signals for a MIDI input. By having one central “thru” point you avoid excessive daisy chaining of MIDI devices, which can result in a delay of MIDI signals (known as MIDI delay) getting to the last devices in the chain. Thru boxes have come in all shapes and sizes over the years, but generally have between 1 and 4 inputs with 2 to 4 outputs for each input. In more complex systems a MIDI patch bay or interface is often used, which usually negates the need for stand alone thru boxes.
