Terminal Adapter (TA)

Used in ISDN digital audio transmission, the TA is an audio transceiver that handles the interface between the ISDN line and any ISDN compatible digital equipment. In the audio and broadcasting world this is usually a piece of hardware that acts as a Digital Audio Codec, and may additionally have direct analog and/or digital audio I/Os. It allows for studio networking and real time transmission of 2 channels of audio over long distances for recording and broadcast. Time Code synchronization is also available with appropriately equipped ISDN TAs.
