AKG has a great, low cost vocal mic in the D880MKII. For about the same price as that other popular model (you know, the one Shure makes) you get a nice supercardioid pattern with an excellent sounding microphone. It has the requisite presence peak for clarity and crispness, but because the pattern is so tight you won’t be cutting the audience’s ears off with leakage from cymbals and gritty guitar amps.
