The most important thing to remember when using BIAS SoundSoap LE is to leave a few seconds of silence at the beginning or end of your song, podcast, etc. This is where you’ll go to sample the noise that’s inherent in your audio. First, normalize the audio, then go to a section where the only thing audible is any background noise. Loop this section (Command-L), then while the loop is playing, click SoundSoap LE’s Learn Noise button. Noise reduction will kick in automatically after two seconds.
Turn off the loop (Command-L again) and start playback from the beginning of your recording, then click on SoundSoap LE’s “Noise Only” button. Adjust the Noise Tuner knob until you just hear the unwanted noise, and none of your music, narration, etc. Click the “On” button when you’re done making this adjustment. Now go to the Noise Reduction knob and adjust it until you eliminate the background noise without affecting your overall recording.
When you are happy with the settings, choose “Bounce” from the plug-ins menu to apply the noise reduction to the recording. When you are finished, click on the “Remove” button to deactivate the plug-in.
