A few pertinent issues for Pro Tools users.
We’ve had reliable reports from the field that the ATTO Express PCI SCSI card (that Digi recommends with Pro Tools systems) needs driver updates to work with some tape drives. You can download them at www.attotech.com.
Digidesign has not qualified the gPort II serial adapter to work with current Apple G4’s, but they have qualified the Gee Three Stealth Port. This is the card that uses the modem slot for serial connections.
Apple G4 models are exhibiting -6042 PCI bus errors when used in conjunction with Pro Tools and multiple monitors. Digidesign is working to qualify a video card that will allow multiple monitor use, until then current G4’s are approved for single monitor applications only.
In early January Apple released a new ROM version ($77D.45f5) that is now shipping with Sawtooth G4’s. Customers with Imation SuperDisk drives will need to download the latest set of extensions in order to mount floppies and authorize. The new version 3.2 is a single downloadable file that contains two extensions (USB Superdisk Driver and USB Superdisk UT Driver) once it has been unstuffed. Stuffit Expander 5.x is required for downloading and decoding. The USB Floppy Enabler remains unchanged at version 2.0.
For ALL OS 9 Users with Imation SuperDisk Drives:
Do not boot up your system with a disk inserted in the USB Drive.
Upon start up OS9 now checks the USB drive in order to allow booting from a USB device. If a disk is present, the Imation drivers are bypassed and Apple’s own drivers are used. If no disk is detected, the OS will use the Imation driver.
Version 3.2 of the Imation SuperDisk USB Driver for Macintosh is recommended for use with OS9.
The PT5 CD updates your existing USB driver to v2.0, but Digidesign recommends that you download the newer 3.2 version from the Imation SuperDisk site (www.superdisk.com).
