Setting up controllers on Emu’s B3 module.

“How do I setup controller messages on an Emu B3 module? Specifically I’d like to use my sustain pedal as an actual sustain pedal instead of controlling Leslie speed with it.”

We’re not sure why you’d want to do this. The B3 organ module is set up to emulate a Hammond organ, which does not have sustain. The default foot switch setting of the module has it set to control the Leslie speaker effect. However, the need to change other continuous controller settings on this module may come into question in the future so hopefully by answering this one the information can be applied to those other needs as well.

The easiest way to change this is to assign another controller number to the pedal from the source (Keyboard). Then on the B3 module hit the “master” button. Scroll to “footswitch controller” and you can tell foot switch #3 to be your new controller number that is assigned to the pedal.

Once a new foot switch has been set up, we now want to set this foot switch to control sustain. This has to be done on a per preset basis, meaning every sound you want to have with this new sustain function has to be edited and then saved individually. Here are the steps:

1) Find the preset you want to effect.
2) Press “edit” button
3) Scroll to “Patchcords”
4) Cursor to top right hand section of the display where it shows a number. Scroll through the numbers until you find a blank patchcord.
5) Cursor down and assign foot switch 3 to keysust at 100%.

Your new controller will now control sustain.
