Many of you are using Digidesign’s Sound Driver in conjunction with Sound Manager on your Mac. (This lets you route internal computer sounds, as well as sound and music from non-Digi software out of Digidesign’s audio hardware – a cool thing!) The question we always hear is, "When playing an audio CD on my computer’s internal CD-ROM drive, why can’t I route the sound through the Digi hardware?"
The answer (unfortunately) is that it is not possible to route Red Book CD audio from the CD-ROM drive to Digidesign hardware. The internal CD-ROM drive routes audio pretty much directly through the computer’s sound chip, bypassing Sound Manager entirely.
