Roundwound

When dealing with guitar strings, “roundwound” refers to the type of winding used to manufacture the string. Wire is tightly wrapped around the core of the string to produce a slightly bumpy exterior of uniform wraps that run the length of the string. Roundwound strings are found on most acoustic and electric guitars, as well as electric basses, and produce a bright, punchy sound. The wraps on roundwound strings can cause a high-pitched squeak, known as string noise, when changing positions on the neck of the guitar.
