Q: I’m starting to notice some fret wear on my solidbody guitar. At what point will new frets need to be installed?
A: That’s a decision each individual player will have to make, but the good news is that generally, the frets on a decent quality guitar can be reprofiled or leveled once or twice before requiring a complete new set of frets. In the real world, most players will probably never require a refret, but if it does become necessary, it must be done by a qualified luthier. Refretting by anyone other than an expert can ruin a perfectly fine instrument.
