Novation’s ReMOTE SL is a fantastic keyboard in terms of the hardware, and now, with the release of version 2 of the SL operating system, there have been some major advances in functionality, which include Mackie HUI support and the ability to automatically map to Pro Tools tracks, sends, pans, plug-ins, window navigation, and tons more. You can also use manual and automatic templates simultaneously in software like Pro Tools and Ableton Live.
Those who purchased an SL will appreciate what this means: Novation is actually listening to user feedback! For those who haven’t taken the SL for a test drive, the new improved Automap feature offers hands-on physical control of parameters without having to switch between a lot of templates or manually assign a bunch of MIDI controls. The Pro Tools integration is particularly tight, so you can select plug-ins and navigate windows directly from the SL without ever touching the mouse. In Ableton Live, you’ll have to click on a device first, then let the SL’s Automap take over, but it’s a minor detail.
Registered owners of the Novation ReMOTE SL can download the version 2 installer for both Mac and PC.
