A device, such as a cylinder, spool, or frame, that turns on an axis and is used for winding and storing rope, tape, film, or other flexible materials. In audio we have traditionally spooled tape onto reels. However, for us the reel is sometimes more specifically referred to as the flanges that extend outward from the hub, which is the surface the tape is actually wound onto.
