Method of reviving your DAW after a crash. Just kidding. The word punch is often used as short for Punch In. Punch is also the act of punching wires down on a punch block, but the word punch is also used in film and video work. A punch is often used in conjunction with a streamer as a cue in film work. It is a big (usually white) circular flash (dot) on the screen that follows a streamer to mark the actual spot of an important hit. It is called a “punch” because they historically were made by punching a pencil through the film used in the scoring stage.
