What can I do to easily protect my Elco cable ends from getting bent pins when transporting my system?
Once again, tech guru Mark (McGyver) Phillips comes through:
Elco connectors are becoming more popular as a multi pin connection in studio and some portable wiring due to their price and convenience (other styles of multi pin connectors are a lot more money). You can purchase an empty female connector, to use as a protecting cap, for the male connector on a portable snake (or vice versa if you have a female on your snake). Be careful to pay attention to whether you need an actuator screw or a fixed nut on it. It will cover the fragile pins and keep them in tact. The extra connector need not even have the pins inserted as it will cover the snake end adequately to protect it. Attach it to the snake with a piece of wire so it doesn’t get lost when the snake is in use.
