In a DAW system an overview allows the user to see a whole audio track while, in another window, he/she may be zoomed in to a specific section. The overview is very handy for helping the user to see where he/she is working in the track. Quite often the user can click in the overview to quickly locate the zoomed (or edit) window to that point. Not all DAW systems have a separate overview.
