A few readers have responded to last week’s TTOTD about Korg keyboards and their inability to hold patch changes while holding notes (see inSync 2/23/99). Several of you have written to tell us that you have keyboards that can change patches and hold the current sound until the next notes are played. We acknowledge that there are numerous keyboards that do this. In most, but not all cases, however, these instruments cannot reproduce the effects for both patches simultaneously. This means that in most cases there will at some point be an abrupt change in the sound simply due to the effects processor loading a new algorithm.
Our statement that Korg keyboards do not have the capability of changing patches this way was slightly corrected: One reader pointed out that his old Korg Wavestation keyboard does do this. We stand corrected on that instrument (actually we just forgot about that one).
