“So I’ve got my 24 tracks all filled up on my Roland VS-2480 and now I need to mix everything down to two. I have a DAT machine, but it’s only 16-bit. On the other hand I want to make CD’s so I’d like to just keep the files in the 2480. Any ideas which direction I should go?”
This one’s too easy! A lot of people don’t know this, but the VS-2480 can bounce its 24 tracks down to two tracks internally. It’s almost as if it’s a 26-track machine. Just get your mix the way you want it and do the bounce. You will end up with two tracks you can continue to work with or burn a CD of.
We should remind everyone, however, that currently standard CD’s are 16-bit, 44.1 kHz recordings. Should you choose the internal bounce feature of the 2480 you’ll still need to dither the files down to 16 bit before you burn an audio CD.
