And now for something completely different. Martin just sent us two new instruments from their Backpacker Travel Guitars Series. But they aren’t guitars exactly. One is the Backpacker Mandolin and the other is the Backpacker Soprano Ukulele. Both feature the traditional Martin Backpacker body-shape – sort of triangular, and very lightweight so you can carry it easily. They’re also surprisingly affordable.
WAVES has announced a variety of coding efficiency improvements to several of its most powerful plug-ins. These coding improvements have no effect on functionality or sonic quality, but they can dramatically increase the number of plug-in iterations available on processing limited host CPUs. Many initial users have seen the number of Waves plug-ins iterations double. The new version 3.2.1 codings can be downloaded from the Waves website free of charge to all 3.xx users. The new versions also include VST compatibility on Windows PC’s including advanced parameter automation.
Speaking of VST, they strike a major victory with the recent announcement from Fairlight that they will be incorporating VST compatibility into the plug-in manager of their workstations. According to Fairlight their systems now boast more plug-ins than any other professional workstation available today.
