We all love the convenience afforded by digital recording. Editing is faster, the sound is great, and you can pack a whole lot of processing power into a relatively small space. Of course, there is a drawback to having a wholly digital studio: managing all the authorization codes and serial numbers that you need to initially get started or install updates.
A lost serial number or authorization code can render your system useless, and no one wants to deal with that. But there is an easy way to keep all your precious authorization information safe and sound. Create a simple text document, it doesn’t matter which program you use. Inside this document, type (or copy and paste) all the authorization numbers that you have. Save the document and move it to a USB jump drive for safekeeping. And the beautiful part is that text files take up practically no space, so you don’t need a big, more expensive one. This will ensure that anytime you need you serial numbers and authorization codes, you won’t have to tear your studio apart looking for that piece of paper that you jotted it down on two years ago!
