“Can you explain the new dongle system EMagic is using for Logic 5.0 upgrades and how the various codes work?”
The system probably sounds more confusing than it is. Let’s see if we can make it simple here. Their new XS key (dongle) is very flexible and comes with Logic 5. It can hold thousands of software licenses, including permanent codes (known as type A) and temporary codes (type B). Temporary (Type B) codes may work for varying lengths of time depending upon how each individual code is set up for the product at hand.
All new Platinum 5.0’s come with an XSkey that contains a Type A code for Platinum. All other EMagic Plug-ins can be temporarily activated for 30 days (Type B).
All 5.0 Platinum Upgrades come with an XSkey that contains a Type B code for Platinum (89 days). The EXS24, EVP88, ES1, ESB can also be activated with 89 day Type B codes. This gives you ample time to register your 5.0 upgrade and supply EMagic with proof of Platinum 4.0/EXS/EVP/ES1 etc. ownership.
Once EMagic receives proof of ownership, Type A codes (for each product) are e-mailed to you.
Again, the XSkey is very flexible. In the case of the ‘Demo Period’ for all EMagic plug-ins, a simple click on the ‘activate demo’ in the XSkey control panel is all that is needed to initiate this Type B code.
In the case of the shipping ES2 and EVOC20, the package actually contains a new and extra Type B code. Once entered into the XSkey control panel, this code will extend the XSkey demo period from 30 days to 89 days, again giving you ample time to register the product. Once EMagic receives registration, a Type A code will be issued.
