Ahh, we just love that word “free”! The folks at Ableton have just announced an interesting promotion: Buy a copy of Ableton Live between September 1st, 2008 and October 31st, 2008 and you’ll get a copy of Operator, Ableton’s FM software synth, absolutely free. Odds are you want a copy of Live anyhow, so why not buy it now and get a cool FM synth without spending a penny more? This special offer applies to all sales of Ableton Live 7, Live 7 LE, and upgrades from Live Lite to the full version. Operator is optimized for use inside of Live, and its core voice architecture consists of four oscillators and a resonant multimode filter. This setup allows for both subtractive and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. In addition to a wide selection of sine waveforms, which emulate the aliasing artifacts of classic hardware FM synthesizers, each of Operator’s oscillators can also generate “virtual analog” synthesis waveforms such as saw, square, triangle, and noise. Operator retails for $159.
