I was unsure what I was getting into when I opened up the microX. It was so small and it comes in this awesome orange case, so naturally I thought the case was just a cover-up for the keyboard being so small.
I hooked up the keyboard, pressed a key, and I was blown away by the sound I was getting. The sound is amazing! Korg didn’t compromise their sound quality for this keyboard. There are hundreds of presets on the microX ranging from world sounds, bass sounds, guitar sounds, keyboard, organ, flutes, human vocals… the list can go on. Packing 64MB of ROM, you are going to get your money’s worth.
The microX is so compact, it can be stashed anywhere and it will be out of your way. Plus, it comes with an awesome hardshell case that will protect the keyboard while it is not being used and is in transport. With 25 unweighted keys, this unit is very light. If you want to play in your living room, bedroom, or kitchen it’s the perfect size for about any condition.
I was shocked at the number of outputs on the microX. It has four 1/4″ outputs, MIDI out, USB, and a headphone output. That’s seven possible outputs for this unit. You can split the 1/4″ outputs to assign specific sounds to go out each output, allowing you the ease of taking this unit into a mixing console and adjusting your mix this way. This is a great added benefit to this unit.
By far this is a small keyboard with a HUGE bite and I highly recommend the microX to anyone looking to expand their studio or play out live without lugging a huge keyboard around. Really, it’s great for anyone wanting to be creative and expand their horizon and get their creative juices flowing. The sounds are fantastic, the unit is small and compact, and the outputs you get are just amazing.
