What is it that makes the Electribe-MX super-cool? Two words: Instant Gratification. You don’t have to read the manual to be up and running immediately with this. Plug it in, turn it on, and instantly you have hundreds of rhythms and loops in virtually every possible style. Even if you are someone who has no experience programming synthesizers or sequencers, you can do this. If you have experience with programming, you will be very happy with the amount of flexibility you have with the sounds, the effects, the filters, the step sequencing, the external input, and the ability to control the sequencing both internally and externally.
Do not think that this is one of those boxes that is only for “dance” music or the like. You not only have the broad range of “old-style analog synthesizer” sounds but also over 100 more “bread and butter” type sounds such as pianos, strings, guitar, and more. I’ve used this to make jazz loops, hip-hop, rock, fusion, ghetto rap – you name it, you got it. Note that you can also daisy-chain loops together to create longer songs.
I frequently get asked to create a jingle or a loop for a podcast, training video, or advertisement. In most instances I’m able to put something together while the client is waiting, or do it quickly and send him an email with a file almost immediately.
The Electribe-MX is also extremely effective if you have writer’s block, frustrations in creativity, or even if you are bored. The number of loops, rhythms, and styles will help spark ideas and get you rolling again quickly.
I have used the Electribe-MX for about two years and it is my go-to if I need help getting another song or project on wheels. I am more of a hardware person still, and I like the ability to tweak knobs and sliders to get sounds going – it keeps me excited about what I’m doing. If I’m feeling really funky I can even hook a microphone up and run it through the internal effects. Everything can be accomplished from the normal and mundane to outright wacky. In summary, I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t benefit from the Electribe-MX, as it will serve as anything from a fun toy to a serious music production tool.
