Abbreviation for Japanese Industrial Standards, an organization for establishing specifications and standards for measurement in Japan. JIS is broader in scope, but similar to organizations like AES, EBU, IEC, and SMPTE. We don’t encounter JIS very much in the United States, but it is used in many other parts of the world.
