With the increased popularity lately of Jaz drives we’ve been getting more questions about them. A popular one has been people asking about compatibility between the older 1 gig Jaz drives and the newer 2 gig Jaz drives.
Put simply, the new 2 gig Jaz mechanisms are completely compatible with 1 gig Jaz media. They can format them (to 1 gig), read and write to them. The older 1 gig Jaz drives cannot deal with the 2 gig cartridges at all. They cannot format, read or write to them.
