The new Apollo x4 from Universal Audio is a huge step up from the company’s previous desktop audio interfaces. If you’ve wanted to step up to an Apollo X but have felt that they are beyond your reach, then the Apollo x4 is exactly what you’ve been waiting for. Upgraded elite-class AD/DA converters ensure top-shelf sound quality, while Thunderbolt 3 technology yields near-zero latency. A powerful QUAD Core processor arms you with spot-on emulations of tried-and-true studio gear, and you can get started right out of the box, thanks to the included Realtime Analog Classics Plus plug-in bundle. The plug-ins aren’t just for mixing, either. The Apollo x4 is outfitted with four Unison preamps, enabling you to track through models of the industry’s most legendary hardware. Featuring a generous amount of I/O, the 16-in/22-out Apollo x4 works with both Mac and PC and is backward compatible with any Mac with a Thunderbolt port.

Improved Sound Quality
One of the things our customers noticed about the Apollo X interfaces when they first dropped was their improved sound quality. The x4 sounds just as amazing as its larger, rackmounted brethren — its elite-class, 24-bit/192kHz AD/DA rivals any high-end standalone converter on the market. But that’s not all. Retooled analog circuitry milks every drop of sound out of the converters. With the Apollo x4 at the center of your studio, you can expect your recordings to exhibit the best sound possible.

The Apollo x4 is fast, delivering speeds up to 40 Gbps via blazing-fast Thunderbolt 3 technology, which ensures near-zero latency. You can network up to four Apollos via the interface’s Thunderbolt 3 port, making expansion a breeze. Aggregating multiple Apollo X interfaces together is an easy way to build a fast, high-bandwidth studio rig. Add to that UA’s legendary real-time DSP processing, and you’ve got a seriously enviable studio solution. And you don’t need to upgrade your computer — the x4 is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 1- and 2-equipped Macs, although you’ll need a Thunderbolt 3-to-Thunderbolt adapter (sold separately). (Note: the Apollo x4 does not support Thunderbolt 1 or 2 on Windows).
Unison Preamps

Like the other Apollo X audio interfaces, the Apollo x4 boasts Universal Audio’s acclaimed Unison preamps. These preamps are often raved about, and with good reason — they put the sound of legendary studio preamps at your fingertips. They’re not measly digital emulations, either. Unison technology does much more than that, adjusting the preamp circuit itself, shifting its impedance and tweaking its analog gain structure, among other things. These preamps not only duplicate the sound but also the interactive behavior of the original hardware. And since the x4 includes Universal Audio’s Realtime Analog Classics Plus plug-in bundle, you’ll already own a top-tier collection of modeled analog gear without buying a single plug-in.
Flexible I/O
The Universal Audio Apollo x4 features a 16-in/22-out configuration — identical to the rackmount Apollo x6. If you don’t need that much I/O, then the newly updated Apollo Twin X DUO and Apollo Twin X QUAD are also available. Like the x4, these new Twins come loaded with elite-class AD/DA and upgraded analog circuitry, boasting better sound quality and more headroom than their predecessors.
