Our Tech Tip from 7/7/06 dealt with ways to transfer files that were too large to email, like large session files. Today’s Tech Tip is a super-fast method of compressing files in OS X for emailing in cases where iChat isn’t an option. To compress a file, control-click on the file and select Create Archive. The archived file shows up with the extension “.zip”, and the file can be easily attached to an email. If you want to compress several files into a single zipped file, simply Shift-click on all the files you want to compress. Once you’ve selected the files you need, control-click on one of the files and choose “Create Archive.” The resulting zipped folder will contain all selected files. To open zipped files in OS X, simply double-click.
