Drop tuning has become a popular technique, especially among metal musicians – though guitarists in other genres have been known to tune their guitars down as well. But, what a pain! To get good results with low tunings, you may need to step up to heavier-gauge strings. Plus, it’s a pain to have to retune your guitar if the tuning changes during the course of a set.
