An inSync reader recently inquired about the dust build up in his computer asking if it is a problem for the components.
Dust doesn’t normally hurt electronic components other than to prevent them from running as cool as they should (it takes a LOT of dust to make much of a difference). It’s probably not a bad idea to blow your gear out with some compressed air once in a while if its getting really dusty. You need to be extremely careful doing this though. Compressed air can cause two problems: 1) It will cool when becoming uncompressed and can cause water to condense around the nozzle and on components, and 2) Static can build up around a metal nozzle that is spewing large amounts of air like this. That static is fatal to IC chips. Grounding the nozzle can solve #2, but #1 just takes care on your part to be judicious with how much air you are spraying around.
