Cycle

A single complete execution of a periodically repeated phenomenon or an interval of time during which a characteristic, often regularly repeated event or sequence of events occurs. In audio a cycle is one repetition of a repeating waveform. Since all audible sound is made up of repeating waveforms we can relate cycles to the number of times a waveform repeats or cycles per second (CPS) to the frequency of repetition and therefore the pitch.
