Background music used in films that is put together from pre-existing material as opposed to an original score composed specifically for the film. The compilation material is frequently popular songs and other widely recognizable music, but in some cases a movie (like 2001: A Space Odyssey) may use material from our classical archives. Most movies are hybrids that are largely made using original music with a few notable songs mixed in.
